After dozens of sessions I found too challenging D&D 5.2024 for new players. D&D Beyond is helpful, still characters have too many abilities and spells, players spend entire sessions browsing up, down, left and right the digital character sheet without following the narrative. This pushed me to purchase the D&D starter set to provide a better experience for new players.
We’ve explored the Heroes of the Borderlands core set, and I have to say I absolutely love what’s in this box. I like the idea of having a dashboard for each player, along with cards representing equipment and spells. It’s a very simple and effective way to manage each character’s actions and resources.
The box includes several wonderful maps that can be used for this adventure and others. There’s a full adventure that offers several hours of gameplay, originally written by Gygax himself, so in a way it feels like the crowning achievement of Dungeons & Dragons.
In conclusion, I highly recommend it for beginners. It’s a very simple and accessible way to start playing Dungeons & Dragons.
